Travel Guide to San Francisco

travel Feb 24, 2022

Jeff and I took a train from Denver to San Francisco and then stayed in San Fran for a few days to explore. San Fran is obviously huge so I would recommend at least 3 full days here (the more the merrier).

GENERAL INFO

Getting around: Rent a car or just take Lyft/Uber around. It’s much easier to get around SF by doing the ride-share thing (finding parking can be tough, the roads are wonky, and drivers can be crazy), but if you’re staying for a while or exploring the outskirts of San Fran too then a rental car would be nice. If you’re planning on sticking around the city the whole time, save yourself the stress and just do ride-share.

TIPHow to get the cheapest car rental! I book a TON of rental cars, and this really is the cheapest way (with reputable companies).

WHERE TO STAY

There are plenty of hotels and Airbnbs around San Francisco. I’d recommend staying in one of these areas: Downtown, Marina District, Nob Hill.

We stayed at the Warwick San Francisco and thought it was a good location and nice place to stay. No complaints at all.

HOTEL TIP: I book all our hotels via Booking.com (if you want to get $25 your next booking, go to this link!)

WHAT TO DO

There’s a lot to do so prioritize what’s important to you!

We loved just walking around exploring SF. Check out the map below with a list of fun stuff to do!

A couple half-day trips I’d highly recommend doing:

  • Tour Alcatraz
  • Explore Muir Woods
  • Explore Sausalito

PS – use this map while you’re out on the town exploring! Here’s how you do that in an offline mode too.

FOOD & DRINKS

My friend, Mia, is a food blogger and these are her must-eat places around San Francisco!

  • Blue Bottle Coffee
  • Roli Roti – try the porchetta sandwich
  • Rintaro – get the gyoza 🙌🏼
  • Ferry Building Marketplace = foodie heaven!
  • Smitten – nitrogen ice cream
  • Equator Coffee – get the blueberry waffle!

We also checked out these places and I’d recommend trying them too:

  • Tacorea – korean tacos
  • Italian restaurant
  • In-n-Out (obviously when in Cali, we’re getting some!)

And if you’re into donuts, check out Jeff’s donut review of a place called Bob’s in San Fran.

All of these places are also on the Google Map!

If you’ve been to San Francisco, anything else you’d add to this list?!
